Two National Awards For Business Journal

The Los Angeles Business Journal has been recognized by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers for last year’s examination of L.A.’s underground economy.

The Business Journal was one of two weeklies selected in the best project category for the Dec. 15 report that explored the importance of cash-based commerce to the region.

The judges concluded that the project, titled “L.A.’s Hidden Economy,” offers “an intriguing excursion into the realm of strippers, day laborers, domestic workers and thousands more who thrive in the untaxed, unregulated underground business world of cash-only transactions.”

It is the second consecutive year that the Business Journal has won in the project category.

The newspaper also received a Certificate of Merit in the Best in Business category for weeklies that recognizes overall excellence for the entire year.

The SABEW Best in Business contest was started in 1995 to help set standards and recognize outstanding business journalism. Awards will be presented on May 2 in Fort Worth, Texas as part of the organization’s annual convention.
