Bike 54, Where Are You?
The city of West Hollywood’s specially trained Bike Enforcement Unit debuted this week. The team will patrol city streets on electric bikes capable of hitting a top speed of 30 mph, looking for parking violators.
City officials say that while the electric bikes might not be much faster than people-powered bikes, they give officers a decided edge when fleeing from irate motorists who have just realized they’ve gotten a ticket.
