A pair of reports released by the Downtown Center Business Improvement District Thursday morning says those living downtown are well educated and earn a median income over $99,600, according to the L.A. Downtown News. One of the biggest differences in this survey is that there are thousands more people living in condominiums and apartments than when the first survey was done in 2007.
The 2015 Downtown Los Angeles Survey Report and a companion document, Downtown Los Angeles Renaissance: Economic Impacts and Trends, come two years after the BID’s last Downtown demographic study. The BID’s President and Chief Executive Carol Schatz said the pair of studies will be used to help recruit businesses and spur investment in the area, including housing and retail and office space.
The report said that the median age of people who live downtown but work elsewhere is 38, while the median age of those who live and work there is 37. Seventy-six percent of those who live but don’t work downtown have a college degree, and their median household income is $96,600. Those figures were slightly eclipsed by the Live/Work crowd, with 80 percent possessing a college degree and a $99,900 median household income.
