An automotive “Scion” is stepping aside in the name of progress. The Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday that Toyota will shelve the youth-oriented nameplate.
The Japanese car giant, whose American sales headquarters is in Torrance, put the spin on this news as the end of a triumphant period in which Scions brought new customers to the brand and introduced a generation of buyers to Toyota. However, those customers have grown up, Toyota said, and now prefer Toyota cars and can pay Toyota prices, according to a Toyota spokesman.
Certain Scions will be rebadged as Toyotas. Some Scion employees will continue to work for the parent company.
