Tobacco Tax Aims to Choke Off Smoking

Backers of a ballot measure to slap a $2 tax on each pack of cigarettes says they have enough signatures to put the matter on the Nov. 8 ballot, Associated Press reports. The effort is aimed at discouraging smoking while raising money for anti-smoking campaigns and tobacco-related health research.
