Tetra Tech Inc. has secured a United States Agency for International Development, or USAID, contract with a potential value of up to $600 million, the company said Monday.

Under the five-year contract, the Pasadena engineering firm will provide architectural and engineering services to assist in setting up infrastructure in developing countries.

The firm will also help the agency’s efforts to secure locals access to clean water, improved sanitation and health care and other efforts to modernize local infrastructure, including energy and transportation.

USAID helps provide foreign economic and humanitarian aid to more than 80 countries around the world.

Shares of Tetra Tech rose 5 percent on Monday to close at $25.57.
