Most chief executives in California remain confident the economy will improve over the next six months, though the number of executives with that view has dipped over the past few months, according to a survey released Tuesday by the Young President’s Organization.

The Irving, Texas, not-for-profit’s quarterly survey of chief executives found that 51 percent of chief executives in California expect there will be better business conditions in six months compared to now. However, that number was down from 56 percent in April’s survey.

Half of the 153 chief executives polled statewide said they plan to increase employee headcounts by at least 10 percent over the next year, a number that was down from 54 percent in the last survey.

Chief executives of construction companies were the most optimistic about hiring, with 75 percent of those surveyed planning to increase their workforce. Executives in the service sector were less confident, with just 48 percent of respondents saying they would grow headcount by at least 10 percent.
