Surf Airlines of Santa Monica is teaming up with ridesharing service Uber to launch the airline’s service to Palm Springs International Airport.
Uber will provide vehicles from its UberLux service, which uses high-end vehicles, including the Mercedes Benz S-Class, the Tesla Model S and the BMW 7-Series.
Surf Air’s collaboration with Uber was a natural fit, Surf Air Chief Executive Jeff Potter said.
“They’re a great company,” Potter said. “It just seemed like a very fitting partnership. The UberLux focuses on experience. Our focus is on convenience and the experience. We’re providing a private aviation experience but making it affordable for a broader audience.”
Surf Air’s inaugural flight is scheduled to take place Thursday, according to Potter. The airline uses the membership model; customers pay a set monthly fee and can take any number of flights.
UberLux riders, and anyone who has taken rides with UberBlack or UberSuv, will be able to participate in a special promotion by choosing “UberPlane” under the Uber app for a chance to buy a $1,200 weekend getaway to Palm Springs. The limited packages are only available to the first eight people, or four couples, who click on the app beginning at 7 a.m. Friday.
The weekend package, which is valued at $3,000, includes roundtrip airfare for two to Palm Springs, transportation provided by UberLux, an all-inclusive dinner and a two-night stay at L’Horizon Hotel.
