The Dow Jones industrial average was up 82 points in trading Thursday to close at 17,575.

The S&P 500 was up five points to 2,052.

The Nasdaq was up 22 points to 5,045.

The LABJ Stock Index was flat at 237.

West L.A. patent monetization firm Marathon Patent Group Inc. was Thursday’s biggest local gainer among stocks trading above $1. Shares of the company rose 10 percent to close at $1.77.

Thursday’s biggest loser, among stocks trading above $1, was Westwood’s Puma Biotechnology Inc. Shares of the cancer drug developer fell 11 percent to close at $72.22 after it announced the results of a clinical trial of its PB272 drug that is used to treat advanced breast cancer.
