The Dow Jones industrial average rose 172 points in Wednesday trading to close at 16,326.

The S&P 500 rose 8 points to close at 1,912.

The Nasdaq fell 12 points to close at 4,505.

The LABJ Stock Index was up 2 points to close at 214.
