The Beverly Hills City Council started considering a deal Tuesday night that would launch an informal review process for a proposal submitted last month by architect Frank Gehry and Los Angeles real estate investment firm Townscape Partners.
Curbed L.A. reported Wednesday that the proposed project would be subject to community feedback and discussion in several public meetings. This input, among other factors, would determine whether the proposal would get to the next phase.
If feedback is favorable, the city would put out a request for proposals for a project on the site in order to have a nominally competitive process to develop the city-owned land.
The plan, detailed in the presentation submitted by Gehry and Townscape, involves building a huge mixed-use campus that would include a five-star hotel with 180 rooms; 500,000 square feet of office space geared toward entertainment, tech, and media tenants; 50,000 square feet of retail space; 150 condos and an elevated three-acre public park with a dog park and a concert venue.
The team also asked that Beverly Hills give Townscape a 99-year lease on the property, which spans both sides of Third Street just east of Foothill Road.
