Jopwell, a recruitment and hiring platform start-up in New York City serving the tech industry, announced Wednesday that it got a boost from Magic Johnson Enterprises, which joined a group of prominent backers who invested $3.5 million in the firm. The platform is aimed at increasing diversity in the technology workforce at such companies as Facebook, Box and Square, as well as giving black, Hispanic and Native American candidates a boost in the job application process, Mashable.com reported.
Magic Johnson of Los Angeles told Mashable.com via email that he feels the current “underrepresentation” of minorities in tech is “disappointing” and just plain bad business. “You can’t make products or services for a global audience if your company doesn’t represent that audience,” he said. “I think more can be done.”
