It’s official: The Rams will return to Los Angeles for the 2016 season.
The 32 NFL owners voted in Houston Tuesday evening to approve the franchise’s bid to relocate from St. Louis to a proposed $1.8 billion stadium in Inglewood.
Rams owner Stan Kroenke issued the following statement after the announcement:
“This has been the most difficult process of my professional career … We would like to thank the National Football League, its owners, and the Committee on Los Angeles Opportunities for their diligence and dedication. We look forward to returning to Los Angeles and building a world-class NFL entertainment district in Inglewood.”
The San Diego Chargers, which proposed a $1.7 billion stadium in Carson to be shared with the Oakland Raiders, might still end up in Los Angeles. The NFL owners granted the Chargers a one-year option to relocate to L.A.
The Chargers issued a press release following the 30-2 vote by NFL owners saying the franchise would explore its options.
Several reports suggested the Rams would play at the L.A. Coliseum until the Inglewood site is completed in time for the 2019 season.
The Raiders, however, will stay put in Oakland.
