“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” marks a new beginning for the franchise – and a departure from times past.
Walt Disney Co. of Burbank has said that the more than 30 years of tie-ins and products associated with the original – known collectively as “Star Wars Expanded Universe” including novels with separate story lines, toys and other memorabilia – will no longer be a part of future Star Wars projects. That’s because the company aims to create its own expanded universe, Bloomberg reports.
Disney purchased the Star Wars series from Lucasfilm three years ago.
