New Era Cap Signs Multiyear Deal With L.A. Live Owner AEG

L.A. Live has a new founding partner. Buffalo, N.Y.-based New Era Cap Co. signed a multiyear deal with complex owner AEG to become the official headwear provider for the downtown sports and entertainment campus. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“We have never had this type of relationship with a headwear company. It’s a new category for us,” said Nick Baker, senior vice president of AEG Global Partnerships.

As part of the deal, New Era will take over a 3,160 square-foot space inside of Staples Center for its New Era D-Lab where visitors can customize hats for New Era licensed merchandise. The store is targeted to open on December 1.

“The store is going to be a co-owned and operated with AEG. It’s a design lab studio. We have our own flagship stores, but this is the first for us in this kind of space,” said Josh Feine, vice president of sports marketing and corporate partnerships for New Era.

In addition, New Era will also become the official headwear partner of the Los Angeles Kings. The company has deals with the National Football League and Major League Baseball. It signed a deal with the National Basketball Association that begins next year.

L.A. Live hosts 1,600 ticketed events annually with Staples Center, Microsoft Theater and the Novo by Microsoft. It will host the ESPY Awards tonight at Microsoft Theater.
