Downtown’s Music Center performing arts complex has received donations from multiple donors reaching nearly $3 million.

The gifts, totaling $2.7 million from private foundations and individuals, are earmarked for capital costs of the $41 million Music Center Plaza renovation, Music Center said in a Feb. 11 announcement.

In addition, some of the donations will go toward free and low-cost programs covered by Music Center’s TMC Arts Fund.

Los Angeles County provided $30 million to renovate the plaza, which reopened in August after a 20-month project led by Leimert Park-based design and architecture firm Rios Clementi Hale Studios.

New funds from the W.M. Keck Foundation and the S. Mark Taper Foundation will support plaza renovation while a gift from philanthropist Susan Kendall will support TMC Arts programming.

Terri and Jerry Kohl, founders of Brighton Collectibles, provided $899,000 in matching dollars to the TMC Arts Fund, which exceeds the Kohls’ original $500,000 challenge grant.

TMC Arts Fund supports public programs, education and dance, as well as free and low-cost arts and cultural programming on the Music Center campus.
