Jamie McCourt, once known as the highest ranking woman in baseball, is channeling the tough life lessons wrought from her high profile divorce into advice for young women: Educate yourself on financial matters.
In an interview with KCBS (Channel 2) Tuesday night, McCourt, who became a household name as co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers with then-husband, Frank, explained that while she lost her stake in the baseball team after her divorce, she gained insight into what a woman needs to do to stay on top fiscally.
Although McCourt has since picked up the pieces by investing in real estate, biotech and technology start-ups, the long-time advocate for numerous women’s programs and charities is now traveling to colleges and universities across the country to speak with young women. Her speech simply titled, “Money: Why you need it, why you should want it and how to get it.”
“If you want to control the agenda, if you want to give money to women’s organizations, you have to get the money. And you either have to have it yourself or you have to raise it. You don’t have to have tons of money but you have to figure out how to get people behind it,” she said.
