Kitson Closing All Stores

The curtains are drawing to a close for iconic West Hollywood boutique Kitson.

The retailer, known for selling fun and unique merchandise by local designers and for attracting celebrity customers, announced Thursday that it would close all of its 17 locations throughout California, Oregon and Nevada. Its online store, shopkitson.com, was not functioning Thursday evening.

James Wong, Kitson’s chief restructuring officer, said in a statement that the company is in discussions with interested parties for a potential sale “that preserves the iconic brand that loyal consumers have come to love and respect.”

The source of the company’s trouble is unclear; executives did not respond to a request for comment.

Boston investment firm Gordon Brothers Group and retail advisory firm Hilco Merchant Resources in Northbrook, Ill. began store-closing sales at its retail locations Thursday.

Kitson was founded in 2000 by Fraser Ross. The stores were often visited by such celebrities as Jessica Alba, Victoria Beckham, Rachel Zoe and the Kardashian family.
