Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Feliz will launch a $200 million, 10-year expansion and modernization masterplan for its facilities, it announced on Thursday.

The first phase of the upgrades, which will also fulfill the state’s seismic safety mandate, involves building a new emergency department and parking structure. Groundbreaking is set for November with completion targeted for fall 2019.

“We will be building our emergency department from scratch. It’s going to be a brand new, expanded facility with upgraded equipment,” said hospital spokesman Jae Chung.

The new emergency department will measure around 26,000 square feet – more than double its current size. The number of beds will also be upped from 20 to 26.

With the state’s 2020 deadline for seismic safety compliance less than four years away, hospitals such as Hollywood Presbyterian are kickstarting renovations.

“We are anxious to start on these enhancements and begin the transformational process of our campus,” said Chief Executive Jerry Clute, in a statement.
