Affordable housing may soon breathe new life into a South Los Angeles funeral home.
The Hollywood Community Housing Corporation is proposing to create 40 apartments for low-income residents on the Jefferson Boulevard site of the old Angelus Funeral Home, which has long sat vacant and boarded up.
The corporation bought the property – which is a historic building under national designations – from the city late last year for $1.2 million, according to city records.
Upgrades will be designed to match the building’s original Spanish Colonial Revival style and the redesign will include offices, laundry facilities, a mail room, a conference room, and apartments.
