Fred C. Sands, founder of Fred Sands Realtors and Vintage Capital Group, died unexpectedly Friday at the age of 77. He built the company from a tiny Brentwood office to the second-largest real estate and financial services firm in California and the seventh-largest in the United States before selling it in 2000 for more than $100 million to Coldwell Banker.
