Four Finalists Named for Pershing Square Facelift

Several local firms are part of the four finalist teams named for a project to transform downtown’s Pershing Square from a concrete park into a more picturesque area.

All four finalist teams selected late Monday by the 9-member Pershing Square Renew committee would remake the now forbidding square into lush commons open to the surrounding downtown neighborhoods.

The four finalist teams: Culver City’s Morphosis and SWA Group’s Los Angeles studio; Culver City’s wHY and Denver’s Civitas Landscape Architecture Group; New York’s James Corner Field Operations and Frederick Fisher & Partners of West Los Angeles; and Paris-based Agence TER and downtown’s SALT Landscape Architects.

“The world class firms selected by our jury include global stars and local unknowns,” said Eduardo Santana, executive director of Pershing Square Renew.

The four finalists will hone their proposals during the first quarter of 2016 and then the committee will conduct another round of interviews. The final selection of a design team is expected in the middle of next year.
