Feuer Fires Up Lawsuit Against DaVinci Developer

City Attorney Mike Feuer has filed a lawsuit against developer GH Palmer Associates for $20 million in compensatory damages incurred to city property by a massive fire at the DaVinci Apartment construction site on Dec. 8, 2014.

The civil lawsuit, announced Thursday by the city attorney’s office, named real estate developer Geoffrey H. Palmer and his company. The giant blaze, facilitated by combustible material including fully exposed wood, created large plumes of smoke, a rain of ash and soot and melting heat.

Intense heat from the fire was reportedly able to travel across the street and damage neighboring properties owned and leased by the city. The city also sustained extensive water damages resulting from fire sprinkler activation and firefighting activities.

The lawsuit alleges GH Palmer failed to have an appropriate fire protection plan, compartmentalize construction, install fire walls or doors, have an appropriate water supply for fire suppression and take other appropriate security measures that would prevent trespassing by unwanted individuals.
