AS&F Foundation of South Pasadena has made a $12 million donation to a Pasadena nonprofit that runs an overnight summer camp in the local mountains for people with disabilities.
AS&F Foundation, formerly the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Foundation, made the donation last week to AbilityFirst, a Pasadena nonprofit that runs programs to help disabled children and teens transition to adulthood. John Llewellyn, chairman of Forest Lawn Memorial Park, and his wife Carol are trustees of the AS&F Foundation.
The funds are specifically targeted to AbilityFirst’s Camp Paivika, an overnight summer camp near Crestline in the San Bernardino Mountains for children, teens and young adults with disabilities. Camp Paivika was founded in 1947 and is one of the oldest overnight camps completely accessible for disabled people. The money will be used for upkeep, maintenance and future capital projects at the camp.
“Camp Paivika is a special place – not just for campers but for all who are touched by their shared experiences here at camp,” Carol Llewellyn said in a statement. “We believe this gift will help to ensure that magic continues for many years to come.”
