The San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders are adding some local muscle to their quest to build an NFL stadium in Carson by forming a partnership with Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Robert Iger, CNBC reports.
Team officials announced Wednesday that Iger will serve as the non-executive chairman of Carson Holdings, the teams’ joint venture, and work with Carson on the construction of the proposed $1.7 billion stadium. Disney also owns sports network ESPN.
The two teams are in competition with the St. Louis Rams and its proposed Inglewood stadium project. Meetings were held in New York Wednesday with officials from the NFL as well as all three teams.
However, NFL officials are not expected to decide whether any teams will relocate to Los Angeles until January.
