Legendary director and producer Garry Marshall died on Tuesday, at the age of 81. His publicist, Michelle Bega confirmed the news first reported by Access Hollywood that Marshall had died of complications of pneumonia following a stroke at a hospital in Burbank.

Marshall was the mind behind hit 1970’s and 80’s television shows such as “Joanie Loves Chachi” and “Mork and Mindy,” for which he is credited as a creator and executive producer. Marshall directed 18 films throughout his career such as the 1990’s blockbuster “Pretty Woman.”

Beginning his career in the 1960’s as a writer for television shows, Marshall created and produced television and films up until the very end of his life, he directed 2016’s “Mother’s Day,” the latest entry in a series of commercially successful films centered on holidays.

Droves of Hollywood stars have mourned the loss of Marshall, among them Bob Iger, president and CEO of the Walt Disney Company released a statement in memory of Marshall.

“Garry Marshall was an original, with an incredible knack for finding and telling stories that resonate in the moment and also stand the test of time. He was also a beloved part of the family at ABC and Disney, creating an incredible string of iconic hits from Happy Days to Princess Diaries,” Iger said. “We consider it a great personal privilege to have known him and will miss his great talent and wonderful humor.”
