California ranks first as the world’s top filming location for the third year in a row according to a study by FilmL.A. released Wednesday.
Of the 109 top-grossing films in 2015, there were 19 California projects generating an estimated $720 million in total production spending for the state.
Sixteen of the 19 films produced in California were live-action films, and seven were projects incentivized by the California Film & Television Tax Credit Program.
“Nearly half of all films created in California last year were made possible because of our work to triple the state’s film tax credit,” Mayor Garcetti said in a statement. “The industry is booming in Los Angeles, and we’re going to keep it that way.”
The state’s top competitors were the United Kingdom, the filming location for 15 of the 109 films, and Georgia, the locale for 12 top-grossing feature films in 2015.
