Appeal for Funds Ahead of El Niño

Congresswoman Janice Hahn is appealing for $10 million from the United States Army Corps of Engineers to pay for repairs to the San Pedro breakwater in order to protect the Port of Los Angeles and the neighboring community in the event of bad weather from El Niño, the Daily Breeze reports. The Army Corps of Engineers reported Thursday that 16 damage areas had been found along the breakwater but said they should be strong enough to sustain heavy storms predicted to begin in January.
