The Los Angeles Business Journal’s index of the largest local public companies rose slightly for the week.
The weighted LABJ Stock Index rose to 196. Gainers outpaced decliners by 84 to 72, with seven companies remaining unchanged.
Shares of American Apparel, which has attracted national attention because of the board’s move to oust Chief Executive Dov Charney, rose 41 percent to close at $0.97.
Shares of IPC the Hospitalist Co., a North Hollywood physician group practice company, rose 15 percent to close at $44.69.
The week’s biggest loser was CytRx Corp., a Los Angeles biopharmaceutical firm. CytRx shares fell 19 percent to $4.02.
