Los Angeles Football Club has signed Delta Air Lines and its partner Aeromexico as the official airlines for the new Major League Soccer club, LAFC announced Monday.
The airlines will provide transportation as the team travels to away matches when it begins play next year.
The sponsorship makes the airline a member of the “Golden-Boot Club,” a partnership deal that includes community outreach, content, and interior and exterior digital signage. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“From day one, our two organizations have shared in a collective vision for and commitment to Los Angeles,” said Tom Penn, LAFC president in a statement.
LAFC broke ground on its 22,000-seat Banc of California stadium last year at the site of the former Los Angeles Sports Arena, which was demolished.
Since 2009, Delta has more than doubled its daily departures at Los Angeles International Airport from 70 to more than 175. It announced a $1.9 billion plan to modernize, upgrade, and connect terminals 2 and 3 at the airport over the next seven years, as well as to provide a secure connector to the north side of the Tom Bradley International Terminal, enabling Delta to build a space for its LAX operations alongside its airline partners.
Delta also serves as the official airline of the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Kings, Staples Center, UCLA, and the Rose Bowl.
