A federal judge on Monday sentenced a Huntington Beach woman to more than five years in prison for embezzling $3.5 million from a Long Beach trucking company, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles announced Monday.
Patricia A. Francisco, 62, stole the money from California Multimodal, a division of harbor trucking firm California Cartage Co., over a 15-year period while working as a bookkeeper at the company, the office said.
Francisco stole funds cashing company checks made out to cash, deposited checks made out to legitimate vendors and created fake expense vouchers, reimbursements from which she deposited into her own accounts. To sign company checks, Francisco used her boss’ signature stamp.
Francisco used the money to make down payments on her home, a condominium, a car, jewelry and vacations. Francisco pleaded guilty in August to four counts of wire fraud.
