Culver City Firm to Build Zero-Emissions Bus Station in Long Beach

Long Beach officials are planning on building a new zero-emissions bus station near the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center.

Earlier this week, Long Beach Transit governing board voted to select Fast-Track Construction of Culver City to design and build a bus station to recharge all-electric buses.

The partnership is part of a larger effort to put all-electric buses on the roads. The station is expected to be built in March and feature a wireless charging system.

The city’s transit board voted last year to purchase 10 electric buses for $11 million from the Chinese auto maker BYD Motors Inc. and put them in service by the end of the year.

The company, which has an auto manufacturing plant in Lancaster, has also manufactured buses for the L.A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

As part of the deal, the city has an option to purchase 14 more buses, which can travel up to 155 miles between charging stations.
