Balqon Corp., a Harbor City manufacturer of electric propulsion systems for heavy-duty vehicles, on Tuesday said that it has signed an agreement to supply 300 drive systems for buses to be sold in China.

The $15.9 million order from Shenzhen-based Winston Global Energy, to be announced at a Los Angeles conference, is expected to create up to 150 jobs at Balqon’s Harbor City plant in the next several months.

“This order from Winston Global Energy validates the competitiveness of our technology in the global marketplace and will result in the creation of high tech green jobs domestically,” said Balqon Chief Executive Balwinder Samra.

Balqon, which makes heavy duty electric trucks, tractors and electric drive systems, has supplied electric tractors to the Port of Los Angeles. The company last month completed a $5 million private placement.

Winston Global Energy produces batteries for electric bicycles, motorcycles, electric and hybrid cars and buses.
