Private membership airline Surf Air announced that Jeff Potter, former head at Frontier Airlines, has taken over as the chief executive.

Potter, Frontier’s chief executive from 2002 to 2007, replaces Wade Eyerly, a co-founder of the Santa Monica aviation company, which began service last year and flies out of Burbank Bob Hope Airport and Hawthorne Municipal Airport.

The company on Friday said it was now taking “the next step in the evolution of Surf Air” in an email memo to its 430 members.

“We want to again thank Wade for all he has done to make Surf Air what it is today,” the memo stated. “We are extremely excited for the future and welcome the new leadership team as we begin the next step to grow Surf Air into the company we all know it can become.”

Other management changes include Sudhin Shahani taking the role of executive chairman. Shahani is the entrepreneur in residence at Anthem Venture Partners, a Santa Monica private equity firm. And Jim Sullivan joins Surf Air as senior vice president of operations; he is a former vice president of flight operations at Frontier.

The changes follow an announcement earlier this week that Surf Air is expanding service to the leisure destinations of Las Vegas on March 21 and Truckee, near Lake Tahoe, on May 2, pending government approval.

The company was founded to serve tech executives commuting between the Bay Area and Los Angeles, and currently offers 16 flights daily to and from San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Santa Barbara.
