Los Angeles travelers can now make international flights on the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner. LAN Airlines, which is headquartered in Santiago, Chile, on Monday began offering international service from Los Angeles International Airport to Santiago and Lima, Peru, the company announced Monday.

LAN ordered 32 of the new aircraft over the next 10 years and has taken delivery of three in a $4.9 billion investment. The Dreamliner is a mid-sized, twin-engine jet that can carry up to 290 passengers while using 20 percent less fuel than comparable airplanes.

The LAN 787 will offer non-stop service from Los Angeles to Santiago on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and daily flights to Lima, Peru. They are the first international flights from LAX using the advanced aircraft.
