American Airlines on Wednesday announced that it is expanding its service at Los Angeles International Airport this year with nine new destinations.

The airline, based in Forth Worth, Texas, began LAX service to Raleigh/Durham, N.C., on April 2, and will fly from Los Angeles to eight other destinations this year, including Eugene, Ore.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; Indianapolis; and Columbus, Ohio. A new flight to Sao Paulo, Brazil will begin Nov. 21, pending government approval.

These markets will bring the airline’s reach from LAX to 51 domestic and international destinations.

“We offer customers seamless access to the most important business and leisure travel destinations across the globe from LAX,” Virasb Vahidi, American’s chief commercial officer, said in a statement.

The airline’s parent company, AMR Corp. filed for bankruptcy in 2011, and the company has announced plans to merge with US Airways.
