Disney Hopes Wall of Water Will Revive Anaheim Park

Can an expensive fountain extravaganza finally turn the Walt Disney Co’s California Adventure theme park into a hit?

The Burbank entertainment giant on Thursday unveiled World of Color, an elaborate water show that is estimated to have cost about $75 million. Think of it as a more animated version of the dancing fountains outside of the Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

The attraction is part of a $1 billion overhaul at the struggling Anaheim sister park that Disney built nearly a decade ago in what used to be Disneyland’s main parking lot. Constructed in a three-acre lagoon, the 26-minute show combines music, lighting, fire, lasers and 1,200 programmable jets of water to bring classic Disney characters to life.
