More than 43 million tourists visited Los Angeles County in 2014, the fourth year in a row the county has broken its tourism record, according to figures released Tuesday. Los Angeles International Airport is also expected to report record numbers for the prior year later this month.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, with representatives from the City Council and the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board, announced the annual tourism figures at LAX’s new Tom Bradley International Terminal.

The 43.4 million visitors in Los Angeles County last year represents a 2.8 percent increase over 2013, when 42.2 million visitors toured the county.

International visitors to L.A. also came in record numbers, 6.5 million, while hotel occupancy rates are also expected to hit a record 79 percent, up from 76.8 percent in 2013.

Final passenger statistics for LAX won’t be released until later this month, but officials said they expect the airport to report serving 70.7 million passengers in 2014, which would easily exceed the airport’s record of 67.3 million passengers, set in 2000. Between January and the end of November, more than 64.7 million people have moved through the airport, a 6.3 percent increase over the same period last year.

“The continuing, record-breaking growth and strength of tourism in Los Angeles is a shining light for our economy, creating good-paying jobs for our families, benefiting local businesses and generating significant revenue for the city that goes toward the public services our city needs,” Garcetti said Tuesday.

Ernest Wooden Jr., president and chief executive of the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board, said the board is on track to reach its goal of 50 million annual visitors by 2020.
