Residents of L.A.’s urban jungle will soon have access to more open green space.

The Los Angeles State Historic Park, nicknamed Cornfield Park, is set to reopen on April 22 after three years and multiple delays.

Cornfield Park will encompass more than 30 acres of grassy fields, wetland areas, an event space, welcome pavilion, and parking.

The $20 million renovation transformed a former 32-acre abandoned railroad yard adjacent to Chinatown.

“The Los Angeles State Historic Park is part of a larger vision to reconnect our urban centers with the natural environment,” Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez said in a press release.

Senate Bill 1177, which was passed in 2001, authorized the acquisition, planning, design, environmental assessment, and environmental cleanup of the rail yards.
