Classic Cars To Rev Up Fundraiser

The cars are coming back to Greystone Mansion.

The prominent Beverly Hills estate, featured in movies such as “The Big Lebowski” and “Ghostbusters,” will be the setting for a showing of collectible autos May 5. The event is designed to raise money for the preservation of the historic site.

The city of Beverly Hills’ Community Services Department and the Friends of Greystone, a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration of the estate, are staging the Concours d’Elegance, which will feature 135 automobiles – including a 1937 Jaguar SS 100, a 1929 Bugatti Type 46 and a 1961 Alfa Romeo Sprint Zagato.

The estate was once the home of the Doheny family and is now owned by the city of Beverly Hills. It serves as a park and the city rents it out for weddings, private parties, filming and special events.

Jeffrey Brynan, an attorney, came up with the fundraising idea four years ago. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to cover Greystone’s expenses, including gardening and maintenance. His wife, who works for the city, has event experience and his son had connections at the Petersen Automotive Museum after an internship there.

“I just put it all together and asked my son if he could get sponsorships,” Brynan said. Sponsors include classic car auctioneer Gooding & Co. and the Petersen.

Last year’s event raised more than $100,000.

“We have 3,000 tickets available and each year we’ve sold out,” he said.
