February was another strong month for air cargo at Los Angeles International Airport, as importers and exporters took to the skies to avoid West Coast ports that, until late last month, were tied up by a labor dispute.
The volume of cargo moving through the airport rose 22 percent to 162,164 tons, an increase of nearly 30,000 tons, according to figures released Friday by LAX operator Los Angeles World Airports.
The number of passengers passing through LAX also rose last month, climbing to just shy of 5 million, an increase of about 4 percent over the same month last year.
The number of domestic travelers rose 3 percent to 3.6 million. The number of international passengers increased at twice that rate, climbing 6 percent to 1.4 million.
