LAX Traffic Continues to Rise

The number of passengers traveling through Los Angeles International Airport continued to climb last month. More than 6 million travelers passed through the airport in March, up 4.2 percent from 5.8 million travelers in the same month in 2014.

Through the first three months of the year, LAX has seen 2.7 percent more passengers than it did in the same period a year earlier, according to figures released Tuesday by airport operator Los Angeles World Airports.

The volume of air cargo flying in and out of LAX also climbed in March. During the month, 196,663 tons of cargo passed through the airport, an increase of 15 percent compared to the same month last year.

So far this year, air cargo volume is up 16 percent, likely thanks to congestion and labor strife that tied up local seaports. Labor negotiations were settled in late February, and it’s likely the coming months will see less dramatic year-over-year air cargo growth.
