The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners, which oversees the Los Angeles International Airport, has approved a $4 billion project that includes building a train that will link LAX to a new Metro rail station nearby.
The board unanimously voted Thursday to move ahead with the Landside Access Modernization Program, which aims to ease traffic around the airport.
The project includes the construction of a consolidated rental car center and new passenger pick-up and drop-off areas, as well as the train to connect the airport to the planned Metro Crenshaw Line light rail station at 96th Street and Aviation Boulevard.
An environmental review process for the project will begin next month, and construction is expected to begin in 2017.
