For L.A. travelers seeking Old World charm, two European airlines are starting their first flights out of the Los Angeles International Airport.

Austrian Airlines announced Tuesday it will be launching nonstop flights from LAX to Vienna starting next week. That follows Lot Polish Airlines, which on Monday launched nonstop flights between LAX and Warsaw, Poland, its first direct West Coast route, with a four-times-a-week schedule.

Austrian Airlines’ first West Coast U.S. service will launch Monday afternoon with a press conference and ceremony marking the touchdown of an Austrian Airlines jet at the Tom Bradley International Terminal. An hour later, the same plane is scheduled to take off for Vienna.

“After Chicago, Newark and Miami, Los Angeles is now the fourth new flight destination and the so far biggest leap into the USA,” Austrian Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Andreas Otto said in a statement when the service was announced last September. “We will fly to the West Coast with our existing fleet and are already very excited about this new venture.”

Initially, the Los Angeles-Vienna route will be served during the summer travel season.
