Zealot Networks Buys Two Creative Marketing Companies

Venice digital media firm Zealot Networks has continued its recent string of acquisitions by purchasing two local creative marketing companies for an undisclosed sum.

Neighbor Agency of Venice and L.A.’s Idea Farmer have become the newest members of Zealot’s growing portfolio of companies that help brands create online content. The two marketing agencies have expertise in the food/beverage, travel and lifestyle verticals.

Launched in August by Danny Zappin, co-founder and former chief executive of Culver City’s Maker Studios Inc., Zealot received an investment from media giant ITV in December that valued the startup at $100 million. The company secured $25 million in initial funding at launch from investors including Zappin and 15 former and current Maker Studios employees.

After being ousted from Maker in 2013, Zappin, along with three other former execs, filed a lawsuit to block a shareholder vote on Walt Disney Co.’s acquisition of the multichannel network provider. The deal, worth up to $950 million, was completed in March.

Over the last three months, Zealot has bought Sherman Oaks music licensing firm AudioMicro for $20 million, as well as Encino management company Premier Sports & Entertainment and New York management and multimedia production studio Converge Media Group for undisclosed sums.

“With Neighbor Agency and Idea Farmer joining Zealot, we now have a comprehensive marketing and branded content development business to extend through our network,” Zappin said in a statement.
