Telecommunications companies Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are being sued by more than 40 California government entities for allegedly overcharging them by $100 million, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
Plaintiffs, including Los Angeles County and the city of Long Beach, are seeking at least $500 million in damages.
The lawsuit alleges that the telecommunications companies ignored two cost-saving requirements included in their contracts with California state and local government customers.
Those wireless service contracts required telecommunications companies to report to government customers which rate plans would result in the lowest cost available and to provide service at that cost.
