Warner Bros. Studios unveiled Monday the six startups that completed its 12-week Media Camp accelerator program, which backs tech companies with a special interest in the media entertainment industry.
The second graduating class included: Portal Entertainment, a tablet content development company; Bubbl, a mobile video editing tool; Wisemetrics, an analytics-based content publishing platform; Incoming, a mobile video engagement company; Toggle, a West Hollywood producer of HDMI devices that stream content to TVs; and Sidevision, a Santa Monica e-commerce video platform.
Nearly all the companies emphasized the importance of audience engagement and addressed issues of targeting specific demographics through in-house analytics or customizing content to adapt to different user tastes.
“For an e-commerce platform, video is turning out to be a more interactive and engaging way for customers to search and look through products,” said Justin Wu, Sidevision’s chief executive. “The goal is that the content creator knows the audience the best and how they integrate their products with their video.”
Audience engagement might have been an indirect theme for this year’s class, but Debra Baker, Warner Bros.’ senior vice president of global business development, said there were plenty of other opportunities in the horizon for the studio.
“There’s virtual reality, 3-D printing and all the new things that consumers are going after but aren’t quite ripe yet for mature businesses,” Baker said.
