Chris Payne, chief executive of West Hollywood dating app Tinder, has resigned. He will be replaced by company co-founder and former Chief Executive Sean Rad, who will reassume leadership of the company less than a year after he was forced give up control.

Payne, a former vice president at eBay and Microsoft, assumed chief executive responsibilities in March as part of an effort to inject experienced leadership into Tinder and to lead revenue generation efforts.

“It’s only been a few months, but there was mutual agreement here that it was not the right long-term fit, and given Tinder’s rapid growth trajectory both Christopher and the board thought prompt action was best for everyone,” Matt Cohler, a board member, said in a statement.

Rad was forced to step down in November in the wake of a sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuit naming co-founder Justin Mateen by Whitney Wolfe, another Tinder co-founder. Rad remained with the company as president, leading the company’s product development efforts.

Tinder’s parent company, IAC/InterActiveCorp of New York, announced plans in June to spin off its Match Group dating division, which includes Tinder, into public company in the fourth quarter.

The company also said late yesterday that Greg Blatt, Match Group’s chairman, would assume the newly created position of executive chairman of Tinder.
