Tinder announced on Thursday that it had for an undisclosed amount acquired General Specific Inc., the developer of Wheel, a video-and-picture slideshow app.
The Wheel app helps users string together a series of pictures and videos, as well as overlay graphics, similar to Snapchat stories. General Specific raised $2 million in seed funding in 2015 from investors such as Upfront Ventures and Allen DeBevoise.
“We are always exploring new ways to innovate while helping our users make connections on Tinder,” Brian Norgard, Tinder’s head of product and revenue, in a statement about why the company purchased the app.
All of General Specific’s employees will join Tinder, including its chief executive and co-founder Paul Boukadakis, who will become vice president of special initiatives, and co-founder Chris Shaheen, who will take a senior role on the software development team.
