Teledyne Technologies Inc. secured a $35 million contract to retrofit reconnaissance vehicles with Teledyne’s surveillance systems.
Teledyne FLIR Defense, a subsidiary of Teledyne, is integrating these military vehicles with TacFLIR 280HDEP, a surveillance package field tested in Europe for almost 10 years. The system provides thermal imagery and aided target recognition technology, which is often powered via artificial intelligence and sensor data to detect and identify targets.
“By providing warfighters the clearest picture of the battlefield through superior (electro-optical/infrared) imagery and intelligent tracking, TacFLIR technology will enhance situational awareness for military forces while reducing operator risk,” JihFen Lei, president of Teledyne Defense & Aerospace, said in a statement.

The contract, awarded to Teledyne by WB Electronics S.A., is part of Teledyne’s foray into military readiness technology. It’s Teledyne FLIR Defense’s third publicly announced contract so far this year, together totaling $85 million.
In February, Teledyne’s military subsidiary announced its nano drone, called Black Hornet 4, would integrate with Switzerland’s armored fighting vehicles, allowing users to livestream. In January, FLIR Defense announced it would integrate thermal imaging radars on Stryker armored vehicles for Bulgaria.
Defense and military readiness are a big part of Teledyne’s company strategy. In a January earnings call, the company credited its record quarterly earnings, sales and operating margins on the strength of the defense business.
